Dear Readers,
A short break from our regularly scheduled content . . .
Did you watch the debate the other night? I didn’t. I can’t watch Trump talk for nine seconds, much less ninety minutes.
I don’t do much explicit politics here at History on Drugs, but Trump is fundamentally offensive to everything this project is about, namely evidence-based inquiry, truthfulness, curiosity, and empathy. He is an abomination.
Lately, he and his equally shameless running mate—Cincinnati resident JD Vance—have been sicking the lunatic fringe on the poor Haitian immigrants of Springfield, Ohio.
Schools have been closed in Springfield now for two days because of bomb threats.
Former President Donald Trump used increasingly harsh rhetoric Friday in describing Haitian migrants in Ohio, saying they’re “destroying their way of life” and threatened mass deportations.
He made his comments as he and some of his allies, including his running mate JD Vance, have claimed that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio are eating cats, dogs and geese . . . . Springfield officials have repeatedly denied reports of Haitian migrants eating pets — ABC News moderator David Muir fact-checked Trump live during Tuesday’s debate — but conspiracies about the migrants eating pets, or using them for sacrifices, have continued to spiral online. Some of those claims were pushed by a neo-Nazi group operating in the area, NBC News reported.
Good old Trump, doing work for the neo-Nazis again.
And something like 70 million Americans are still going to vote for these shameless pieces of shit. It’s infuriating.
I’ll be volunteering today to make some calls for the Harris campaign or go door to door or whatever they ask me to do (click here for events near you). In the name of all that is righteous, get out there and do something, people. These ghouls must be stopped.
