69. Madison, Wisconsin is the New Hub of Psychedelic Research
A travelogue from the cheese-curd state
Dear Readers,
I’ve been traveling in the world of donuts and cheese curds, not to mention free beer.
That’s right, I was in Madison, Wisconsin for a fabulous mini-conference organized by drug historian Luc Richert, whose entrepreneurial and organizational talents never fail to impress me.
Believe it or not, I took the above picture at 7:30 AM in the hotel restaurant/bar. I asked the bartender if the “free beer” thing was real. “Yes,” he responded with authentic Wisconsin cheeriness. “Anything we have on draft!”
Turns out this is normal on football Saturdays in Madison. Getting drunk is also clearly an important part of the Madison “brand.” To wit, these light bulbs were available in the airport gift shop:
