On My Mind #16: Social Media and Institutional Failure
Getting a little weird at the end of the semester
Dear Readers,
As I write this, it’s an absolutely glorious Monday morning, all blue skies and blooming flowers.
Unfortunately, it’s also April 15th, which means I have no choice but to finally do my taxes. There’s never a better time than the last minute for your taxes!!
I’m usually not quite this bad. But I’ve been incredibly busy this spring, and my taxes are going to be a bit more complicated this year, which is something I’ve been dreading, so here we are. But I’ve got a whole day ahead of me! Why not do some procrastiwriting first?
As I noted a couple of weeks ago, the newsletter and podcast have given me a taste of the anxiety that comes with the “like” button and tracking subscriber numbers. In short, the miserable realities of the social-media age. That experience has come with increased empathy for my anxiety-ridden students who grew up with all this crap and don’t know anything else.
